CAS - Color Me Autumn Gratitude For Days

( CAS = Clean And Simple )
After yesterdays overload of embellishment, I decided to go the minimalist route. I still managed to add some layers and texture, but the essence is simple.

Stampin' Up Color Me Autumn Gratitude for Days Card Idea
Color Me Autumn and Gratitude for Days
Soft Suede Card bases, with the striking Blackberry Bliss pattern from the Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper, and a little creative inking on the Gratitude for Days stamp, I used the Blackberry Bliss Stampin' Write Marker to select the text I wanted.

The first card floats a soft Suede pattern with the Blackberry Bliss pattern to add the vertical element in this weeks layout. I added the Autumn Accents Die cuts in Old Olive and Blackberry Bliss, to keep with the paper set color scheme. The Wooden Elements Embellishments are sponged in Old Olive, and stamped in Blackberry Bliss. And that's all, folks!
Stampin Up Card Color Me Autumn Gratitude for Days
Simple Layers with wooden accents

The second card uses the Crushed Curry pattern with that Blackberry Bliss pattern, and the vertical element also has the Neutral and Old Olive Two Tone Trim. I cut the tag using the Project Life Framelits, and hooked it to the trim with an In Color 2014-2016 Printed Clothespin.

Simple, yes. But I'm much more please with today's creations than yesterdays...

Color Me Autumn Gratitude for Days - Vintage Country

Well, Vintage Country was my attempt at least! Funny how cards evolve in progress sometimes.

Veterans Day has passed, but your opportunities to Thank a Veteran exist every day!
14 Ways to Show Your Thanks To Our Military:
"Buy a ticket for a Vet to attend a fun event. Brown Paper Tickets Salutes shows you how to donate event tickets that will get into the hands of a vet in the city of your choice: the program has delivered more than $1 million in entertainment tickets to military families by event organizers and ticket buyers in 48 states. Events of all types in price ranges from $5 to $100, from sporting events to comedy shows, farm-to-table dinners and comic book conventions are listed in cities across the country, and you can purchase one or more tickets that will get donated directly to Vets hoping who could use a night out."

My cards today are continuing the theme this week, Same Paper, Same Stamp, Same layout. Sigh. Its more of a challenge than I expected, so forgive me the fudging on today's cards. I'll try harder for tomorrow!!

Vintage Country - term used very loosley

Color Me Autumn DSP and Gratitude for Days Stamp Set
I used the Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper as the background, and stamped the sentiment from the Gratitude for Days stamp set onto a Tea Lace Paper Doily. Layered over the Burlap Ribbon, and Natural and Old Olive Two Tone Trim (deconstructed from the swirl rope to the threads), the doily and the DSP strip needed to be attached with Stampin' Dimensionals to give it height clearance. I added the Vintage Designer Button to give it "credibility" that the whole thing would stay together! Its a little more bulky than I would prefer. So for the second card, I kept things simpler and followed the sketch a little more closely, besides flipping it on its side again. :-)

I used the Two Tone Trim again, and Linen Thread, and accented this time with an arrow from the Wooden Accents Embellishments. This piece I stamped with some of the elements from the Gratitude for days stamp set that matched the Blessings stamp (triangles, probably to small to notice here, but they DO match!)

So there you have it. I'm going to claim this as a victory. What are your suggestions for that bulkiness? I hadn't noticed it before, maybe because I usually use the ribbon with cardstock layers? I'd be appreciative of any tips or thoughts you have on that...

Color Me Autumn Gratitude for Days - Grateful

Color Me Autumn and Gratitude for Days - Grateful

Today is Veterans Day. A day we celebrate the brave men and women who serve our country, I hope you'll take some time this week to practice an act of gratitude, as simple as saying Thank You, or something more substantial.

7 Ways to Honor a Vet : "Learn more. For many veterans, the most powerful thanks you can give is to simply understand why they served and what this nation is really all about. Spend some time learning about the details of American history, our proudest achievements and the great challenges facing us today. Remember also that our veterans did not serve to protect just part of America, but all of America, with all the freedoms that entails. Spend some time learning more about the parts of America you don’t know and about American beliefs that you don’t fully understand. In other words, become the best possible citizen you can be."

This weeks cards are (hopefully) going to use the same layout, stamp set, and Designer Series Paper. Its a great way to challenge myself, but also to use up that Autumn theme paper. Color Me Autumn does have some great patterns and a versatile color palate, but to get the great Fall feeling the other patterns provide, you really have just a few more weeks! {Really, you can use whatever paper whenever you'd like! I'm just saying that the usual trend is to make seasonal cards, and Fall is heading towards winter pretty fast! #justsayin}

Today's cards use the Grateful sentiment from the Gratitude for Days stamp set. This is a photo polymer set, so layering the accents and sentiments is easy-peasy!!

I used the acorn print. I really cant come up with a subtle way to use this print, so I went all out and used it as a background. I stuck with the color palate of the Designer Series Paper and used a Crushed Curry card base, and Blackberry Bliss layer behind the paper. The sentiments from the Gratitude for Days stamp set are both done in Old Olive, with some of the accent stamps added in Crushed Curry, and layered over a Cajun Craze Scallop Circle Punch.

On the first card, the trim accent on the left is done in Whisper White Bakers Twine. The Grateful stamp has only the yellow accents, and I sponged some Soft Suede on the edges of the circle.
Gratitude for Days on Color Me Autumn DSP - White Bakers Twine
I also changed the layout a little by rounding the corners on the right, and aligning the layers on the left edge. Here is a close-up of the simpler sentiment:

On the second card, I used Linen Thread, with the acorn pieces from the Autumn Wooden Elements. I added the acorn to the sentiment as well, in Soft Suede.

Gratitude for Days on Color Me Autumn DSP, Autumn Wood Elements
You can see in this close up of the wood elements, I left them as they come, but you could step them up with some embossing or even just a little colored ink sponged on.
Autumn Wood Elements - acorns
I'm using the same stamp set, layout, and Designer Series Paper this week. Lets see if I can inspire you all week!

Veterans, and their families, are an inspiration every day! Please take a moment today to celebrate them.

Color Me Autumn Gratitude for Days - Blessings

Welcome to Veterans Day Week!
"Thank You" will never quite be enough to show our gratitude to those who serve, but its a great place to start!!

7 Ways to Honor a Vet on Veterans DaySay “thank you.” It’s a simple gesture, but a deeply meaningful one. If you see a veteran in uniform out in public, simply step up and thank that person for his or her service. Shake that person’s hand, look them in the eye and give a sincere “thank you.”
Many veterans wear their uniforms in public on Veterans Day, making it easy to identify veterans out and about. It doesn’t take much out of your daily rush to stop and spend just a few seconds thanking them for their courage and sacrifice."
Thank You.
This week I decided to use the set Gratitude for Days, and the rest of my Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper. I think its a good week to remember all we have to be thankful for, and those who make it possible to enjoy it all in safety and freedom.
The stamp set coordinates with the Simply Sent kit Gratitude for Days, which is a great way to save those memories at Thanksgiving, or a variety of other fun uses! The stamp set has some pretty accent stamps that will keep it in the "useful" piles of stamps pretty much all year!
I also decided to try and follow a sketch for the layouts this week, we will see if I can make it all week with the same layout, paper and stamps... That seems challenging, but that's why I do it. To challenge myself!
Gratitude for Days, Color Me Autumn, and Autumn Accents
I like the crumpled leaf look for the Autumn Accents Bigz Die cuts, I used it on these cards, and here works well on the Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper. This paper set has some really bold patterns, but also has some solid color designs as well. Not completely solid, they're more water-colored looking, with variations in the darkness of the color. I thought that would work well for leaves, as Fall leaves are rarely uniform in color.
The left side of these cards is colored using the Stampin' Spritzer tool. It gave a water colored look to the card that kind of matches the leaves. I used two different stamps from the Gratitude for Days Set, and added some swirls to the first one.
Today I'm Thankful... Color Me Autumn and Gratitude for Days
Count Your Blessings - Color Me Autumn and Gratitude for Days

Its easy to say Thank You, try it this week... and then every time you see a Service Member. They, and their families, sacrifice so much to protect and preserve our way of life here. Count them in your blessings.
Happy Crafting!

Color Me Autumn Flower Patch

Still on the same layout, still using up that Autumn paper!

Today's cards are using Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper, and the Natural & Old Olive Trim from the Holiday Catalog; and Flower Patch stamp set, with coordinating Flower Fair Framelits, Natural Cotton Ribbon, Cajun Craze and Very Vanilla Cardstock.

I like to think they look like Chrysanthemums... perfect for November birthdays!

Color Me Autumn Flower Patch - Hello Honey flower, Cotton Ribbon banner
For this card, because I can't seem to make cards if I don't make two, I used a Cajun Craze die cut at the back, topped with Hello Honey stamped and cut layers, and I stamped off to get the color variation, and added a stamp in Cajun Craze. I know the color specifically in the Color Me Autumn DSP is Crushed Curry, but I havent restocked my ribbon, and I thought I was out of Crushed Curry and I'd use the Hello Honey ribbon... that I'm out of also. :-/ So there's that. I think the Cotton Ribbon really worked out nicely! I used the natural strands from the Natural & Olive Trim to tie up the ends of the Cotton Ribbon, to echo the dots/brads in this layout.
Color Me Autumn Flower Patch - close up of stamp on ribbon

For the second card (or first, I tend to work on two at once) I  used Very Vanilla Seam Binding as the ribbon accent, and used a more contrasting flower arrangement. The sentiment is stamped on Very Vanilla Cardstock and accented with the Candy Dots.
Color Me Autumn Flower Patch Birthday Card

Color Me Autumn Flower Patch Close up of flower

Its been fun trying out different combinations in the same layout, I hope you'll look back through my blog and see the other combos I've used this week!

Color Me Autumn Accents

Autumn!! Leaves are starting to turn, and the days are getting shorter and
cooler!  These are a couple cards you could use for your Thanksgiving hosts, or to give to teachers or coworkers. Fairly easy, the hardest part is getting the die to ONLY cut the one leaf. Thus all the numerous variations. LOL

Perfect Pennants Autumn Accents

Fall. Autumn. Cooler Weather, warmer clothes. Apple Cider, pumpkins, harvest moon...

For this card I used Baked Brown Sugar and Crushed Curry, stamped with Gorgeous Grunge onto Very Vanilla, for the background. I die cut a leaf from Very Vanilla with the Autumn Accents Bigz Die and scored it, then crumpled it up, then sponged some Crushed Curry and Baked Brown Sugar onto it. Perfect Pennants sentiment stamped in Early Espresso. Some bakers twine onto the leaf stem, and affixed if with Stampin' Dimensionals. The Very Vanilla layer is also popped up on the Baked Brown Sugar card base with dimensionals.

In California, we know its Fall when Starbucks starts serving Pumpkin Spice Lattes!! LOL

Motlley Monsters on Halloween Street

Need a cute Halloween stamp, but don't want a whole set? The single stamp Halloween Street is for you! Happy Halloween just about says it all. And its priced right too!
For today's card I used Halloween Street stamp and the Motlley Monsters Designer Series Paper from the Holiday Catalog. It has such a good mix of patterns!! I also used the Confetti Stars Punch, which I am loving for tags and cards, its so dang cute!

Happy Halloween!! Halloween Street, Motlley Monsters, Confetti Stars by Stampin' Up!
I used a Bermuda Bay card base - did you know you can get pre-cut and scored card bases in a variety of colors?! What a time saver! And I layered the Halloween Street stamp, stamped twice in Tangerine Tango - once onto Soft Suede, and then again onto Crushed Curry. I fussy cut the yellow layer, I thought it gives it a spooky glow! Those two layers are popped up on the Bermuda Bay which has the Confetti Stars Punch across the top for a night sky effect. I added the pennants, scrap Designer Series Paper, to give a little more color. I don't make too many cards for Halloween, but when I do they need to be cute!

Something To Say - Autumn Ombre

Trying to find a fall combo of oranges proved to be.. Not hard at all! Always nice when a color combo just falls into place. I liked the Basic Grey background and the softness of the Very Vanilla to lighten it up. I used the Thank You from Something To Say, and the flower punch from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack. I could not decide between the Pearls or the Candy Dots, and posted to Facebook to see what others thought. Overwhelming vote went to the Pearls. I must say I am still partial to the candy dots, but maybe I'll try a mix on the next card. Or just go with the pearls! I plan to make a set of these to donate this week. :-)

Something To Say - Candy Dots - Scallop Oval
This one with the Candy Dots used a little darker Scallop Oval, the Tangelo Twist. The stamp is done in Cajun Craze. The colors I used are Pumpkin Pie, Tangelo Twist, and Cajun Craze, on a Basic Grey and Very Vanilla base. ((shhhh, the 1/8" Pumpkin Pie Taffeta Ribbon is retired. You could sub in the 3/8" Tangelo Twist Stitched Satin ribbon.))

This one wins in the polls!
Pearl accents with Something To Say and Itty Bitty Punch Pack.
Thank you for voting, and thanks for visiting today! Other Autumn card posts can be seen HERE.

Artisans Craft Fair Recap

Last weekend I was pleased to participate in the Artisans Craft Fair, presented by Grace Co. Handmade as a fundraiser for her 2015 mission trip to Carrefour, Haiti.

It was a gorgeous day for an outdoor craft fair! We were not using pop-ups, so I had to come up with an alternate way to hang my banners. This was a fun challenge, made easier with the help of my master-builder friend Kristin, and my handy hubby! I think the end result was good, and with some tweaks might be a great display for me! We looked at a few ideas online, but came up with this final idea thanks to Kristin. I used 2 8ft closet rods with clothespins attached at 1 foot intervals, and some jute cord. The bases were these big 12x6" wood remnants from the lumber store, that Mr. Man so helpfully drilled with holes for me. I took some bricks to add if the wind picked up, but the stands worked just fine, and they were not so heavy that I couldn't set them up myself. The posts are not fixed in the bases, so its easy to dis-assemble and pack up.

These are the banners I took:

Handmade Holiday Banners MidnightCrafting.com
Simply Created Canvas and Chalkboard Banners
The Boo Banner is hand inked canvas, with paper accents. I used bat punch art, and a little ghost to spook it up. The Noel and Snow banners are also hand stenciled canvas, with ribbons and rosettes and some snowflake ornaments made of paper. The Countdown to Candy is made of paper with a chalkboard pennant and a hanging piece of chalk to help you count down to Halloween.

***To make your own banners like the ones above and below, you can purchase supplies like the Simply Created Build A Banner Kit and the Chalkboard Banner Simply Created Kit. I also used elements from Ribbon and Trim, and fabulous Stampin' Up! Cardstock. www.MidnightCrafter.StampinUp.net If you would like to purchase a banner from me, pre-made or custom, please contact me to discuss your project! MidnightCrafter at Gmail dot com***

Handmade Christmas Banner MidnightCrafting.com

The Countdown to Christmas banner is made with the hand stenciled canvas, paper die cut letters, and a chalkboard pennant accented with vinyl snowflake cutouts. I also included a hanging piece of chalk to keep track of the sweetest season!

 Handmade Thankful Banner MidnightCrafting.com

Handmade Thankful Banner MidnightCrafting.com

The Thankful banner was definitely a work of heart. I hand stenciled the two-tone background and letters. The leaves and pumpkins were all evolutions of my earlier garland paper art pieces. I love the combination on this banner, and was Thankful for all the attention it got at the fair. Definitely one I will have to make again for my home.

Participating in this fair as a crafter rather than in my usual Stampin' Up! Vendor mode was both scary, and educating. I know how to share my love for the great Stampin' Up! products I sell, its hard not to rave about the benefits and qualities of my favorite stuff! But giving glowing reviews of my own handmade work seemed a little boastful... I was not quite sure how I would interact with people.

All I knew as I went into it was that I loved making the items I brought! It had been so nice to make things that I've wanted to make, for so long, but haven't made the time!! It was different than deciding what product I could feature, which promotion I would showcase, and how to display and convey information. I did play with my display, I used my suitcase again, and my wooden crates. My tables were set up a little different, and I had an umbrella to shade my chocolates - oh the CHOCOLATES!! It was an adventure, I really had no expectations other than a pleasant exercise in crafting.

It ended up being my most enjoyable outing to date!! On several levels! I took my daughter with me this time. She looked forward to it, asking me every day - "How many days now, until I get to go with you to the craft thing??" It was the last afternoon I got to spend with my friend & fellow crafter, she actually moved away the following week. And I loved seeing peoples reactions to my treats and creations. Seeing the joy someone feels when they buy a gift for someone, and hearing all the stories of who would be getting the gifts. SO heartwarming! And they bought ALOT of gifts!! Whats not to like about that!

I really felt a different welcome from the other Artisans, and the customers who came through the fair. All seemed more open to and appreciative of hand made items - something that I find sadly lacking in many of the Vendor events I attend. Handmade is a different horse. I guess it was hard for me to separate the two in my own mind until I had experienced this craft fair. I had wondered at the disinterest and highly varying success rates at other shows. I now recognize this was most likely due to that 'handmade' quality. People at vendor fairs are not always the same people who appreciate or create handmade items as gifts, part of a hobby, or as a business. They can be!! But in my experience, not so much. I now know to do better research, how to better blend in or separate my Stampin' Up! sales side, and to find events that will be more enjoyable and successful for me. And I need to spend more time with hands on creating. Being a Maker. It really is what I enjoy!!

Perhaps when my own mini-makers have grown a little more, I'll make room (and have more energy) for more making! ;-) #momlife

Motlley Monsters - a Halloween card finally!

Now I DID show you a Halloween card I made using Motlley Monsters way back HERE!
But since it's the first day of October, I thought a Halloween card was in order!!
Woo-hoo!! Let the Holidays BEGIN!!

Motlley Monsters scare up a little fun!
This little spooky card uses the ghost pattern, and a little cut out of the trick or treat guys from the sheet with the border. I then used the Project Life by Stampin' Up!Holiday Cheer stamp set sentiment  Fright Night Stamped in Hello Honey. The orange I punched with the Confetti Stars Punch - love this punch!! Finished with some Hello Honey ribbon, a candy dot, and some sequins from the Seasonal Snapshot Project Life Accessory Pack - they come in yummy colors for fall and winter!

Motlley Monsters is a fun paper set to have, I love that I have been able to use it on other fall themed cards without it being stuck in the "Halloween" category. Versatility is on my checklist for products I love. :-)

Awesome Motlley Monsters Flower Patch

What the What?!?
Motlley Monsters DSP and FLOWER Patch stamp set?!?!

But... It is Awesome! Right?! ;-)

Flower Patch and Motley Monster DSP combine for some awesomeness.
Ok, maybe not totally awesome, beauty is after all in the eye of the beholder! But I like the combo.

I had some scraps of the leaf pattern from a sheet of the Motlley Monster Designer Series Paper. The squares are 1.25" and the card base and ink are Crumb Cake. The Candy Dots are from the Brights Collection. I could not for the life of me find any stamp sets in my collection that had leaves in them. (I know, shocking!) So I improvised and used some of the "leafy-er" shapes from the Flower Patch Photopolymer Stamp Set. And I felt pretty good about it, so I ended up using the sentiment from that set as well. Don't laugh too hard!

This is your Two for Tuesday post... enjoy!

Motley Monsters? That paper is just for Halloween!!
Sure... and Autumn, and Masculine cards, and anyone who likes Owls, or starry skies... Its got quite the mix of patterns!
Motley Monsters Everyday Occasions Card
Masculine For You card - Autumn or Fall - Everyday Occasions
For today's card I paired the tree pattern from Motley Monsters Designer Series Paper - carefully cropped to avoid any spooky eyes - with a stamp from the Everyday Occasions Cardmaking Kit. I like the 7 piece stamp set included in that kit, its useful for everyday occasions! LOL I used Stampin Dimensionals to pop up the For You on the Artisan Label Punch, and added some Candy Dots. The Crushed Curry strip on the edge is finished with the Finishing Touches Edgelits Die, and I added some Basic Black 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon.

It's (Almost) Fall Y'all - Autumn Garlands

In honor of the upcoming Autumnal Equinox and the First Day of Fall, I made some fall garland/banners. These are in the style of my Easter garlands, you can see HERE. I had a lot of trial and error to get the leaves the way I liked, and I may still change them up a bit, but I like the swirls on everything. It reminds me of the fall wind blowing the leaves around...

Long Banner, great addition to your fall mantle decor

Short Banner, great for the entry way or kitchen

Vertical Banner - Oh this one is my favorite!!
The first two are traditional horizontal banners, long and short, for decorating the mantle and entry way. I used the jute twine and various ribbons coordinating with the Regals and Brights Designer Series Paper Stacks. I used the Pumpkin Pie from the Brights for the Pumpkins. with a stem of Baked Brown Sugar and a vine of Old Olive Cardstock. The Leaves use the Regals paper in a variety of colors, some Real Red thrown in from the Brights pack. These creations are held together using the new Stampin' Up! Handheld Stapler, as well as the permanent Glue Dots. They are delicate looking, but pretty darn sturdy! I boxed up my Easter garland, and look forward to enjoying it next year!!

No tutorial on these... yet! I am making a few for the upcoming craft fair, so look for more info next week. :-) They are not too difficult, but a bit time consuming. Easy enough to prep while you watch your shows though!!

Enjoy the weekend! I'm off to browse the Harvest Festival with the kids - that should be enough adventure to last me a while! LOL

Happy Crafting!
