Hippo Punch Art Twist Card

I needed a cute hippo, for a friends Christmas Card. Its a cute song... I get it.
Kind of.
::
"I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy"

::
Anyhow,
there are ALOT of punch art hippos out there, but let me tell you NOT a lot of tutorials!

So, I picked the hippo I liked best, and through trial and error came up with this cutie-patootie to add to my twist card:

I'm especially proud of her hand drawn facial features, I am not known for my coloring skills!

Super cute, and if you're looking to make your own, you can buy a tutorial - or you can play with your circle and oval punches, some sponge shading, and some hand drawn details. ;-)

Q&A Making Paper Ornaments

Making Paper Ornaments
 Q&A

Q: I’ve seen some great paper ornaments lately. I’d like to make some, but don’t know how!

Ornaments and Snowflakes

A: Paper ornaments are a hot trend this holiday season. Beyond decorating trees, they are being used as décor items around the home, as accents on wrapped gifts, and as fun, family projects. Of course, there are so many different ornaments to choose from. Luckily, I have a couple of gorgeous, and easy, ones to share. I got these ideas from Stampin’ Success, a magazine that demonstrators receive free from Stampin’ Up! It’s one of the great perks of being a demo! Here are instructions for Paper Bulb Ornaments and Glitter Snowflake Ornaments. Enjoy!

Paper Bulb Ornament:
• Ornaments are made up of 9 strips of paper that are 1” wide. The center strip is 8” long. Each curved layer is 1” longer. Make the ornament strips from plain or stamped card stock or from a selection of your favorite Designer Series Paper. You’ll need strips in the following sizes:
     1    1” x 8” strip for the center
     2    1” x 9” strips
     2    1” x 10” strips
     2    1” x 11” strips
     2    1” x 12” strips
• Pierce holes centered in the end of each strip, about 1/4” from the end, using the Paper-Piercing Tool (#126189) and Stampin’ Pierce Mat (#126199).
• Layer the strips so the top ends are even and so they are stacked in this order: 12”, 11”, 10”, 9”, 8”, 9”, 10”, 11”, 12”.
• Place a Silver 1/8” Mini Brad (#122941) through the pierced holes. Spread prong to close brad and hold layers together.
• Thread the holes at the bottom of the strips through a Silver Mini Brad causing the longer layers to curve out.
• Thread a piece of Linen Thread (#104199) or Baker’s Twine (page 172) through the center of the ornament and slip it up between the strips so it wraps around the Mini Brad. Knot thread around the brad to hold in place and then create a loop to hang the ornament.
• Optional: Cover brads with buttons, Pearl or Rhinestone Jewels, or ribbon.
• Make ornaments of different sizes by starting with a shorter 8" x 3/4" center strip and adding 1/2” for each layer from the center.

Glitter Snowflake Ornament:
This super-fast ornament can be made two ways.

My Digital Studio:
• This option allows you to make snowflakes in any size you wish. Use the Snowflake Punch in My Digital Studio. Size Snowflake Punch as large as you want.
• Print to create a template. Cut out template.
• Trace onto the back of Glimmer Paper (available in Silver, Red, and Champaign).
• Cut out by hand.
• Create ornament from a single snowflake or sandwich 2 snowflakes back-to-back so both sides are finished. For a 3-D ornament, score 3 snowflakes in half, fold, and adhere backs together.
• Use Linen Thread (#104199) or Baker’s Twine (page 172) to hang ornament.

Big Shot:
• This option is faster since it doesn’t require cutting snowflakes by hand, but it only makes 3 ornament sizes. Die cut Glimmer Paper using Snow Flurry Bigz Die and the Big Shot.
• Create ornament from one or two layers, or make a 3-D ornament as described above.

Ornamental:
Enjoy making these fun, paper ornaments to give as gifts, to add to wrapped gifts, and to decorate your home. It’s a great project to do with the kids and makes thoughtful and affordable gifts for teachers that kids will be proud to say they helped with. Or make the ornaments with the kids over winter break. It will keep them occupied with something fun, productive, and affordable, plus you’ll have lots of ornaments to give as well as use for decoration!

Made Just For You Cookie Box

As you browse the Online Extravaganza and dream up possibilities for all that cool stuff on sale... here is a great idea you may want to jump on before the sale ends on November 28th!

Made Just For You Cookie Box
A cookie kit so your recipient can decorate and enjoy some sweetly stamped cookies!!

Some essential elements of this fabulous DIY gift kit are on sale this week:
Kraft Gift Boxes 124106 30% off! - get 3 to make 12 kits
For the holidays I'd use the
to line the boxes - 1 package will do all 12 boxes and leave you with leftover to make other projects!
and use the Gumball Green ribbon to coordinate with the paper order the
You will also need to order:
Circle Treat Cups 116802 - 1 pack of 12

To put these cute cookie boxes together, you'll need to bake a few cookies - 2 Dozen should fill up your 12 boxes. Use your favorite sugar cookie or shortbread recipe, or follow the two recipes included with your stamp set and stamp your cookies before baking. These images will be adorably sweet beyond the holiday season - perfect for a rockstar birthday or congratulations cookies, your graduate, any giftable occasion - weddings or showers, and the flower / snowflake can carry through winter into the summer months... You will get your use out of these!

Special Events Sweetly Pressed Cookie Stamps 126903
While your cookies are in progress, baking and cooling, pick two colors of icing to make - I'd go with white and red, but yellow and blue would be nice, or... well. Whatever you'd like!! Fill your 1/8" cellophane bags with icing, and seal up tightly with a good twist and fold of the top, secured with a bit of Bakers Twine. Once the cookies have cooled, create your bags of 2 cookies and twist and tie with Ribbon. You could create tags to go on the cookies, or a nice lable for the top of the box. Fill your Treat Cups with the sprinkles of your choice, and seal up with a 1 3/4" circle on the back, decorate with some Be of Good Cheer paper punched with the 2 3/8 scallop punch to get that scalloped edge like in the photo. Then, line your boxes using the Be of Good Cheer Designer paper, fill with your cookie kits, and you've got a dozen sweet giftables to pass out to your neighbors, kids at holiday dinner, or some deserving friends!

The cost of the consumable supplies breaks down to less than $5 per box, and you'd get to use these adorable cookie stamps over and over through the year! But hurry - the Online Extravaganza is only on for a few more days, then the cost of gift giving goes back up!

This week I made 4 cards... We're getting down to the wire!! Hahahaha...ahem...
The color combo is not showing in the best of light, but its Certainly Celery, with Marina Mist and Midnight Muse. The base is Certainly Celery Card Stock. I stamped the snowflake form the Mixed Medley Hostess set in Midnight Muse onto the Marina background, added an accent layer of Midnight Muse Card Stock, and the sentiment is a Certainly Celery layer with a 1-3/8" Circle Punch, the snowflake stamped again on the Marina Mist and punched with the coordinating 1-1/4" Scallop Circle Punch, and the small Whisper White circle is stamped in Midnight Muse and hand trimmed. The accent ribbon is Certainly Celery, but a retired spool. The accent bling are Jewels Basic Rhinestones.
